Call for Post-Doctoral Fellow Applications (SoPP)

Three post-doctoral research fellowships for a sociological study of interdisciplinary research are available at the UC Davis Philosophy Department. The fellowships are for a period of two years, and start no later than January 1, 2025. Location of residence is open.  The project is devoted to a study of https://www.biologicalpurpose.org/ and follow-on projects, and draws on sociology of work, science, and organizations; philosophy of biology; and familiarity with evolutionary biology and related areas. Competence in at least one of these areas is required, and familiarity with additional areas is a major advantage.

One fellow will be appointed to assist with the bibliometric and network analysis parts of the study. The fellow will have a strong background in data science, as well as familiarity with obtaining and working with bibliometric and network data on the scientific community.

Two fellows will be appointed to assist with interviewing, analysis of data, and conceptual activities. Familiarity with qualitative social science methods is a significant advantage for these positions.

Although the project is a team effort fellows will be encouraged to work independently as well, and develop their own research projects within the broad scope of the larger project.

Interested candidates should send a letter of interest, writing sample, and CV to  https://ucdavis.app.box.com/f/5b681f97d589470db81051a1bb9212f1

by April 15, 2024. Deadline extended to April 30, 2024. All three filenames should begin “Lastname-Firstname” followed by either “CV” or “letter” or “writing sample” and end in “.pdf ”, e.g. “Griesemer-James CV.pdf”

We hope to have a final decision by June 1, 2024.
